Their holidays are well earned.

The Goulburn duo rode, swam and ran thousands of kilometres in preparation for the Pru Health World Triathlon Grand Finals.

They spent 20 hours cooped up in an aeroplane before tackling a challenge posed by likeminded individuals and a circuit around London’s CBD.

Roberts, 18, finished eighth in his division of the sprint distance triathlon on September 13.

Skillman gave himself an opportunity to win the open age Olympic distance triathlon two days later.

He finished fifth overall from 140 rivals after negotiating a 1500m swim, 40km ride and 10km run.

The 28-year-old climbed into second position at the commencement of the run – his preferred discipline.

Skillman finished the race, conducted in-andaround the world famous Hyde Park, in a time of one hour, 47 minutes and 41 seconds.

After months of a disciplined training regime, both were desperate to relax.

They each opted to let their hair down in France.

“Top ten in the world isn’t too bad I don’t think,” Roberts wrote in an email exchange with the Post.

“The swim was very hectic.

People everywhere smashing each other up until everyone’s positions began to sort out about 300m in.

“I thought I was a mile behind out of the water and had a lot of work to do.

“It was a long run to the transition and this meant it was an opportunity to pull back positions straight away on the people who tend to slack off between swim and bike.

“In typical London style it had rained all night and the roads were very slippery and wet.

“I think I pulled back about five positions in the first lap just passing people who had crashed and were on the side of the road fixing their bikes.”

A stunning run justified Roberts’ decision to represent Australia at the event.

“Into the run I was 10th and I had my second fastest 5km ever, running 16.10 and caught two positions to finish 8th.

“Wearing the green and gold was a great feeling and I hope I get the opportunity to do it again.”
